It is difficult to think about children and their
development at this current time due to the tragedy that struck last week at
the Shady Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut that resulted in so many young children’s
life being cut short for no reason. Children are precious gifts that are to be
nurtured and loved and given every chance to live a life that is full of
opportunities.
While the past several weeks have been full of
thought provoking assignments the interactions that have been done between my
fellow classmates have not only enriched my educational perspective but have
also given me other avenues in thinking and working with children and their
families. And it is for that I want to
say THANK YOU. Thank you for your
insight. Thank you for your comments.
Thank you for sharing your personal stories. And thank you for being a caring educator who
will put each child first.
“In addition to their relative brevity, one of the
critical ingredients that make stressful events tolerable rather than toxic is
the presence of supportive adults who create safe environments that help
children learn to cope with and recover from major adverse experiences, such as
the death or serious illness of a loved one, a frightening accident, or
parental separation or divorce (National Scientific Council on the Developing
Child, 2009).”

ReplyDeleteI am still shaken by the school shooting in Connecticut. So tragic. It has been so hard for me to even think straight and stay focused at times. It is time that we put our children ahead of politics and money.
ReplyDeleteI am hopeful the town of Newtown can sometime find a new normal in the future because of the outpouring of support and services they are receiving. I think of other communities and individuals who are not so lucky and are therefore unable to cope. Thank you for sharing and opening up.
ReplyDeleteQuandra - I also wanted to say what a pleasure it has been to have you in both of my first 2 Walden University classes. I appreciate you hard work and dedication. I look forward to continuing the journey with you.

Quandra, its very sad to know that those children had such a short life. I try not to think about it too much because I have so much other things that I am dealing with. I am just thankful that I still have my nieces and nephews that are still developing.
ReplyDeleteI thank you for all of your insightful posts and I hope to see you in future courses. Keep up the great work that you are doing.
Quandra, my heart is still heavy thinking of the children and families that have been affected by such evil. I think those of us who have a passion for children will always remember. Thank you for your dedication to the field. I look forward to many more classes with you.
